WLHG Donation FAQs

Thank you for your interest in contributing and its because of people that will make an impact for cancer patients in Alberta and beyond.

You have the opportunity to choose if you would like to support the general game or a specific player or referee. Click here to make a donation and select which area you would like to contribute to.

This year, the Cure Cancer Foundation is aiming to raise $1.5 million supporting clinical trials at the Cross Cancer Institute. Thanks to supporters like you, cancer patients in Alberta will have access to a novel drug, PCLX-001, that works differently than the drugs currently available for breast, lung, bladder and pancreas cancers.  But it doesn’t stop there. In fact, it is predicted to make the most significant difference – and potentially even a cure – in: Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas, Leukemias and other blood cancers. An incredible feat possible only thanks to donors like you.

When can I expect to receive a tax receipt?

Tax receipts will be issued within 30 business days via email from the University of Alberta. You can expect the email to come from recsec@ualberta.ca

.

Cure Cancer Foundation is committed to funding the clinical research being done at the Cross Cancer Institute by brilliant researchers like Dr John Mackey. In order to facilitate this, all funds raised by the World’s Longest Hockey Game through the Cure Cancer Foundation are donated to the University of Alberta. Those funds will then be designated to support the game-changing clinical trials that will affect cancer patients right here in Edmonton and beyond.

Absolutely! If you are interested in donating in kind support, please contact Alberta Sports Vision Institute at brenda@asvi.ca or  780-417-3003.

If you are looking to make an individual contribution, we encourage you to head to the donation page and donate online to avoid any in-person transactions due to the recent AHS guidelines.

However, if you have fundraising proceeds including cheques and cash, you are able to either drop off those funds at Alberta Sports Vision Institute (820, 220 Lakeland Dr. Sherwood Park, AB T8H-0N6) or on site during the game (February 4-15, 2021) at 52269 Range Rd 220, Sherwood Park, Alberta.

Please ensure that all cheques are payable to the Cure Cancer Foundation and can be mailed to WLHG c/o KMG Events at 12112 39ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6J 0N2.

If you do have any issues with your tax receipt, please contact recsec@ualberta.ca

After you have made your contribution (thank you!) you will receive an immediate confirmation email. Although this is NOT your official tax receipt, it will acknowledge which specific individual you directed your donation to. If this is not reflected, or it is directed to the incorrect player or referee, please contact recsec@ualberta.ca

Thank you for being such a champion for cancer research in Alberta and promoting the World’s Longest Hockey Game. Encourage your friends and family to donate online and make sure to keep up to date on our fundraising progress through Facebook or Instagram.

All donations will go towards clinical trial research through the U of A as promised, regardless of whether the game takes place. All funds donated to date under the Canada Revenue Agency are non-refundable but will 100% go towards getting us one step closer to hosting the phase one clinical trial.

This error is caused by the language setting on some mobile devices (if your device has the language setting as English (Canada) the USD will appear and if that’s changed to English (United States) that goes away.) Bottom line: this is just a glitch. All donations are received and processed in CAD.

Spectators are NOT allowed but you are welcome to DRIVE THROUGH to honk and cheer your encouragement to the players from your car. There will not be a parking area available for cars to stop and watch the game.

We are helping to help answer any donation questions you may have! Please call Kate at 780-289-3077.

Any donation that you are willing to contribute will be matched until the $100,000 has been used.

Thank you for your generosity and contributing to the incredible work that the World’s Longest Hockey Game is funding! Although we may not be able to inform every donor if their gift was matched, we will be updating the website with the updated totals.

Thank you for your contribution to the World’s Longest Hockey Game and for getting us closer to that $1.5 million goal. This dollar match will not apply to donations made before February 9th but will be used for any additional gifts made from this date onwards.

Any gift made from 12:01am onwards on February 9, 2021 will be matched dollar for dollar until the allocated $100,000 has been raised.

Your individual tax receipt will reflect the amount that you personally contributed and will not include the dollar match. For instance, if you donated $100, your tax receipt will be $100 but the total donation to the World’s Longest Hockey Game will be $200.

Yes! If you designate a gift towards a specific player or referee, that matched gift will also go towards that same player and referee.

Immediately! If you make a contribution to a player during the dollar match, your donation will appear as doubled on the individual player or referee page. For instance, if Jane Smith makes a $50 donation during the dollar match, the donation will show up as $100 on the donation page. The gift will automatically be doubled!

For all donations received before February 4, your tax receipt would have already been emailed or mailed to you. If you have not received, please feel free to contact recsec@ualberta.ca with the subject line: WLHG Donation Resend Request.

For all donations made on or after February 4, your tax receipt will be issued by the end of May via email from the University of Alberta.

Raising $1.5 million in the middle of a global pandemic seemed like an ambitious goal, but you showed up yet again with support stronger than ever — an incredible $1.94 million (and counting) for cancer patients in Alberta and beyond. As a result of this overwhelming generosity, we are facing some delays in processing charitable tax receipts for this record-breaking year. Rest assured that yours will be en route at our earliest opportunity; we appreciate your patience and you can expect your tax receipt to be emailed by the end of May.

If you do need to update your contact details for your tax receipt, please contact recsec@ualberta.ca with the subject line: WLHG Donor Address Update.

All charitable donations made from January 1, 2020-December 31, 2020 are eligible to be used to claiming on your 2020 tax return. If you did make a donation prior to December 31, you should have received that in the mail. If not, please contact recsec@ualberta.ca who will be able to assist you further.

For any donations made after January 1, 2021, that have not been receipted to date, you can expect to receive your tax receipt in May and can use that for your 2021 tax return.
